Hola

recomendación a colegas y amigos.

AUSTRALIAN
ENGLISH: Is it really different?
Source: Think in English - Author: Ruth Hellema |
When
listening to an Australian you quickly realise that there is something
different about the way s/he speaks. But could you mention which the
differences are? Have a look at the following six tips and practise with
the Australian mp3 passage below: |
-
In
Australian English speech rhythms are slow, stress being more
uniformly spaced than in Standard British English (SBE).
-
Consonants
do not differ greatly from those in SBE, although the intervocalic /t/,
such as in better,
is often pronounced /d/.
-
Often
the final -er is
very open, resulting in a word such as weather
sounding like wethah.
-
Another
open sound is -o-.
Therefore hello
becomes hellow.
-
Typically,
the vowel sound in day
(/ei/ in British and American English), more closely resembles the
vowel sound in why
/ai/.
-
Another
difference is the /au/ sound in town
which becomes teown.

Where the mathematics ended and opened into light and space
Ellen decided to turn, when something on the ground under a tree caught her eye.
For a moment she thought it was a bundle of clothing her father had left there.
Soft contours of flesh came forward in bush, the trees and undergrowth suddenly
act as backdrops.
It was a man, lying in the shade; a foreign body, on their
property.
She thought: another suitor!
